DIY Computer
After completing the book, I put together a recipe for making a high-end computer for very little money. I am now selling this recipe for $11 (see below).
This computer is about half the size of a mini-tower; it uses very little power, and it is quiet. Not stone quiet, but close. I built one of these machines and am now using it full time, and I am finding that it can do everything my big computers could. It is not built to play games, but then I do not play games, so I do not need powerful fans to keep the processors cool.
My big computers cost about $1,700 each from Dell, and my new, home-made one cost $595.48 and it is about 3 times as powerful. It can be made for much less using lower-end components if you do not need so much computing power. Runs Windows and/or Linux (Ubuntu etc), and it took me about an hour to put together.
This system has an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU running at 3.16GHz, 4GB DDR2-800 memory, a 1TB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, and a fast 22X DVD CD burner/reader. It has both digital and analog monitor ports, six USB ports, and so forth.
Compare these specs to any commercial computer selling for this price. I think you will find that it's no contest.
The computer is small, quiet, energy efficient, and powerful. The system comes with good and simple directions. For tools you need only a screwdriver.
Optionally, my recommended "more economical" option costs only $381.48 while still using high-end components.
You can also install a second hard drive or card reader.
Haven't built a computer before? I've done all the legwork for you, tracking down the best and most economical components. For the $11 you will get my recommendations on which components I used, my links for where to buy them, and 15 photos showing the construction in full.
After running this computer for a few days, I liked it so much that I bought a second one for Jenny. The second one took only about 15 minutes to build, start (out of the box) to finish, with Jenny taking the photos. From there, I formatted the HD and installed the OS.
The price of $11 includes $1 of PayPal charges. To pay for the use of my recipe, Contact us, and we will tell you how to proceed. Also, please say that you want the information emailed to you. Otherwise we will send it via snail-mail.
And one request: Please do not share the info. If you have a friend who is interested, have them sign up too.
If you have not built a computer before, my recipe might kick you up to the next level, for those that could use the nudge :)
