Ray-Way Quilt kits

Bristlecone Update

In the past we were selling a specialized material for the quilt's top layer called Bristlecone Brown.

This update is for those customers who bought a Quilt Kit with the Bristlecone option.

In our write ups, we said that this material is warmer than our regular quilt fabric. We still stand by that statement. And we also said that we do not recommend it for warm and humid climates, such as in the Eastern states, the Pacific Northwest, and so forth. This was because it is not meant to handle high humidity.

The problem was, a few people from those regions bought it anyway. Then they experienced problems in the form of condensation inside the quilt, underneath the Bristlecone.

This was because the Bristlecone was MUCH too warm, and caused the person to sweat.

Due to this concern, we stopped selling Bristlecone.

If the Bristlecone is working well for you in your locale, then by all means keep using it.

But if not, we are suggesting any of these options:

#1) Use the quilt inside out. That is, with the Bristlecone next to you, and the regular fabric facing the sky. That will keep most of the moisture out of the insulation.

Also, make sure to dry the quilt inside out, Bristlecone facing down, regular fabric facing the sun.

#2) Most people cannot sense when they are starting to over-heat while sleeping. Our regular fabric compensates by allowing the sweat and insensible perspiration to pass out of the quilt and waft harmlessly away.

So reduce your sleeping clothing, and shift your body part way out of the quilt to cool off. Think of the Bristlecone quilt as over-kill; which in warm, humid climates it is.

#3) OR: If you have not made your quilt yet, return the one layer of Bristlecone to us, and we will send you a replacement.

OR if you have made the quilt, use a seam ripper to take it apart, and return the Bristlecone to us for a replacement.

#4) OR: make a new quilt from our regular fabric, and retire the old Bristlecone one.

Note: You could cut the Bristlecone material away and sew on a big patch of regular fabric. But why bother? Especially as we are offering a super deal on a new one.

We cannot afford to give you a free replacement, because our margins are quite low. But here is what we can do:

If you bought a Bristlecone quilt kit, we are offering you $25 off on a new quilt kit.

That knocks the price down for a 1-P kit from $74.95 to only $49.95.

And it knocks the price down for a 2-P kit from $87.95 to just $62.95.

Order a new Quilt Kit from our Order Form. Then send us a note via our Contact Form requesting your $25 discount. Please use the same name that you used when placing your Bristlecone quilt kit order, so that we can check our records to make sure you qualify for the discount. We will then process your order and send you your discount right away, via PayPal.

Please keep in mind the spirit of our offer.

Also, with our new book in the works, we are too busy to comply with special requests, or even reply to them.
